Easy Steps to a Classic, Romantic Look
Ahhhh Valentine’s Day. I just love the feeling of romanticism around this time of year! Drew and I always make it a point to spend quality time together on Valentine’s Day, and this year will be no different! Since love is in the air, I wanted to share a classic romantic look that would be perfect for your Valentine’s date night! The best part? You can probably recreate it with products you already have. Keep reading for the complete steps to nailing this look! The Base To start this look, apply your every day makeup sans mascara and a lip color. Keep eyeshadow neutral, but be sure to add a bit of pink blush! Highlight and contour as usual. Curl your hair, and be sure to curl all the way to the end to get a more romantic, bouncy-feeling curl. Second or third day hair is best for this hairstyle! Add Texture! Next, hold up your top layer of hair and spray a texturizing spray. I use Amika’s Un.Done Texture Spray. If you’re not familiar with a texturizing spray, it’s the perfect product for adding volume and hold without having to tease hair! Amika’s version doesn’t make hair sticky or weigh it down. I use this product all of the time- whether I need to add just a little volume to my every day curls, or if I need a good base for an updo. Pull It Back Once you’ve got some texture and hold, pull the top third of your hair back into a bun in the center of your head. Secure with a few bobby pins, and don’t worry about it looking too perfect. Be sure to pull out any front pieces you want to frame your face! Loosen the bun to keep it soft and finish with a touch of hair spray and you’re good to go! Add Some Drama Next up, makeup! Start by lining your eyes with a liquid liner on the top lash line only. Liquid liner can be tricky to master, so that’s why I’ve been loving Eyeko’s Skinny Liquid Eyeliner. The brush is almost like a marker, so I can get an exact line without trying too hard or worrying about stray brush hairs. Flick the liner up at the outer corners to get a glam cat eye! Once the eyeliner is dry, add two coats your favorite mascara to top and bottom lashes. A Lovely Lip The last step to achieving this classic romantic look is a red lip. Everyone has a different preference when it comes to lip color, so I believe a lip stain, liquid lip, or classic lipstick would work with this look! My lips have been super dry this winter, so I went with a tinted lip conditioner. I used Ilia Tinted Lip Conditioner in Arabian Knights. I almost can’t believe this is just a lip conditioner because the pigment is so beautiful. Since it is conditioning, it actually looks better the longer you wear it! The Finished Product Your final look should be soft, yet a little bit dramatic. The sexy cat eye and beautiful red lip are the perfect classic complement to a romantic half-up hairstyle. Be sure to customize these tips to fit your hair texture and makeup preferences! Add a dozen roses and you’re Valentine’s Day ready. 🙂 You can shop all of the products I mentioned above right here! The Most Romantic Day of the Year What are your Valentine’s Day plans? Drew and I usually stay in and make dinner together. We love to try a new recipe and then split of bottle of wine! Whatever your plans, have an amazing day celebrating love! Cheers! Katie You’ll also love… Get Perfect Berry Lips for Less than Ten Dollars! Five Things I’ve Learned from My First of Year of Blogging
It’s Brewing Up Style’s first birthday! I can’t believe that a year ago I bought my website domain and began sharing my favorite things with you all. It just so happens that the year I decided to start blogging was a year filled with new experiences. I changed full-time jobs, traveled a lot, and met so many amazing women through blogging. In honor of celebrating Brewing Up Style being one, I thought I would share five things I’ve learned from my first year of blogging with five of my favorite photos from this year! 1. Find Your Passion I have the creative bug. I just love the idea of creating something and sharing it with other people. The catch? I’m a terrible artist. I can’t draw, I can’t paint, and I’m mediocre at music at best. My handwriting is terrible (although I’m going to teach myself calligraphy this year!), and I’m really not handy with a hammer and nail. So what is there for me to create? I’ve always loved photography and the idea of coming up with a concept for a photo and seeing it come to life. My mom got me my first DSLR camera, and I was immediately hooked on how I could have complete control over an image with just a lens and a few computer programs. That’s why I find blogging such a natural fit for me. Ever since I was little I loved keeping a scrapbook, and I like to thing of blogging as just an online version of a scrapbook of my life. It is so freeing to find your passion and find an outlet for it. 2. Always Look to Improve One thing is for sure- work in blogging is ever done. Whether it is an email to respond to or a picture to edit, getting complacent can mean stagnation for your business. For some, that possibility may seem overwhelming or stressful, but I enjoy the challenge. I find power in the ability to always improve or tweak what I’m doing to make it better. This lesson has extended to other areas in my life as well. Since I’ve changed my mindset to “improvement,” I’ve never gotten stuck in a rut. Always looking for ways to improve has taught me to stay humble and trust that the process is worth the effort. 3. Build Your Tribe The single biggest factor in being successful at anything is having the support of others around you. As a blogger, I’ve found that it is important to have a support group both in real life and online. My real life support group is amazing. My boyfriend, Drew, takes all of my pictures and always listens when I just need to vent. I couldn’t do this without him! My friends and family all support my blog and love sharing it with others. When I started blogging, I just assumed that every other blogger online wouldn’t be interested in making friends. I thought that it would be super competitive and lonely. I’m so happy to report that this is not the case. I’ve met so many amazing women from all over the world! We message each other, encourage each other whenever we land an amazing collaboration, and cheer when the other posts a fun picture. We check in with each other if one seems like they are having a tough week (which happens!). I can’t imagine that I would still be blogging if I didn’t have my blogger support group. 4. Trust Your Gut When a situation doesn’t seem right, what do you do? I’ve had several instances where I’ve had to learn to handle tricky situations with grace. The ones that get me the most usually go like this: A fellow “blogger” asks me to join her completely free online group and fills the entire group with messages like “we are in this together!” At first, I believe it, because like I stated above, I have a group of fellow bloggers that are supportive and amazing. However, it never fails that about a week later the blogger asks those in the group to buy her “revolutionary” e-course for fifteen dollars. I guess this throws me off because I think that if you truly wanted to be supportive and share knowledge, you wouldn’t make others pay for it. I might be the only one that thinks this way, but I quickly get tired of girls who build online friendships in order to get just one more sale. So I’ve learned to always trust my gut and never apologize for leaving a situation if it doesn’t feel right. 5. Be Yourself This is the most important lesson I finally put into practice this year. I learned that being myself is more important than almost anything. Especially when it comes to blogging, staying true to myself has proven to be the single best thing for me and my small business. I’ve read so many posts from other bloggers about how they got their start, and one thing is the same in all of them: They posted about what they love. They weren’t looking to make big bucks right away, they weren’t aiming to have the “perfect” Instagram feed, and they were unconcerned about the number of followers they had. Even the most successful bloggers got their start by just sharing what inspires them. As a new blogger in the world of online influencers, it can be really easy to get caught up in what you “should” do. But I’ve found that what makes me happiest is doing my own thing. Now when it comes to creating and sharing content, I’m probably consistently breaking every blogger “rule” in the book, but it makes me happier to be sharing what I want, how I want.
